Napster DMPJ-250C Firmware Upgrade

Napster DMPJ-250C Device Firmware Version 1.015

There is a new firmware upgrade available for your device. The upgrade resolves a known issue with Windows Media Player 11 and transferring tracks to the device that have associated album art. Users that choose not to upgrade their firmware will likely experience failed or extremely slow transfers when managing music content with associated album art.



Napster DMPJ-250C Firmware Upgrade Instructions

  1. First, make sure that your device is disconnected from your PC and then placed into Mass Storage mode. If Napster is running, please Quit Napster from the right-click menu on the Napster system tray icon (next to the clock on your task bar)..

    * *If you choose NOT to proceed with the firmware upgrade, you will need to place your device back into MTP mode in order to continue using it with Napster.

    With the device powered on, put it into Mass Storage mode by pressing the Menu button and navigating to Settings>System>USB Mode, and then selecting Mass Storage (pictured below).




  2. Once your device is in Mass Storage Mode, reconnect it to your PC with the power on using the USB cable that was supplied with your device. Once your PC recognizes the device, a Windows Explorer window will appear (shown below). This window should be closed before continuing with the upgrade.



  3. Click Here to download the firmware upgrade utility. When prompted to Run or Save the file, choose Run.






  4. When the Security Warning dialogue box comes up, choose Run.





    Choose Next to initiate the firmware upgrade installation process.





    Once the installation process has completed, you should see the dialogue box below. The steps that follow will take you through installing the new firmware onto your device.





  5. To verify that your device was detected properly by the firmware updater, your "current" and "upgrade to" versions should be the same as the versions shown below and the Firmware Upgrade button should be active. Click the Firmware Upgrade button to begin the upgrade.






  6. It's important to note that all of the content on your device will be erased by upgrading your firmware. Click OK to acknowledge this as shown below.





    Once you have clicked OK to acknowledge that all of the content on your device will be erased, you will see a progress bar as shown below.





    Once the firmware has been loaded onto your device, the following dialogue box will appear. It's extremely important that you do not click OK until you have followed the instructions and completed the steps found in the dialogue box.

    WARNING: It is extremely important that you follow all of the steps listed in this dialogue box including the step that requires you to perform a Quick Erase. Failing to follow these steps can result in a failed firmware upgrade and may cause your device to not be detected by your PC.





    The images below display the different screens your device will display once it is disconnected and the instructions provided by the utility have been followed. Once all steps have been followed, proceed to loading the font files onto your device.

    Once your device is disconnected...



    Once the firmware upgrade is complete...



    The image below shows the Quick Erase option on your device. Choose Yes and press the Play button on the device. You should see a message that says "Please wait, erasing...". If you do not see this, the Quick Erase was not successful.



    Erase complete...





  7. After following instructions presented in the dialogue box in the previous step, your device will again be in Mass Storage mode. Reconnect the device to your PC making sure to close the Windows Explorer window that comes up, then click the OK button on the utility.






  8. You should now see the following window. Click the Firmware Upgrade button to install the font files to your device.





    Click OK on the warning dialogue box.





    Once the font files have been successfully transferred to the device, the following dialogue box will appear. Per the instructions, disconnect your device from your PC and reboot it. Click the OK button to close the firmware upgrade utility.



    After you have rebooted your device, you will need to place it back into MTP mode in order to continue using it with Napster. This can be done by pressing the Menu button and navigating to Settings>System>USB Mode, and then selecting MTP.



IMPORTANT NOTE: If you find that your device is no longer being detected by your PC after performing the firmware upgrade, navigate to the Quick Erase option on your device and click Yes. Once the device has run through the Quick Erase process, you should attempt to run the firmware upgrade again.
